The problem with sharing

One of the biggest issues we face in collaborative learning is the problem of sharing. Jerry Leeson recently put me onto Julita Vassileva’s work in relation to communities of sharing. Her work in relation to the development of a social bookmarking system gives some good insights into how to encourage sharing. As she states, “The biggest problem faced by developers of small-scale online commities is to ensure user participation. Comtella (system) applies techniques based on social psychology and visualization to motivate users to participate and to regulate the amount and quality of contributions”.
